In the southern USA state of Louisiana, where the music cultures of French and German immigrants and of African slaves merged to form the ethnic zydeco, musicians re-invented the washboard. Freed from its wooden frame, the Louisiana washboard hangs over the player's shoulders, easily adjusting itself to the movements of the zydeco musician. Teaspoons or bottle-openers are used to work on the sheet metal - the player plays on his own "washboard stomach". Our rubboards are handmade from rust-free stainless steel in a small German workshop. They are loud and cannot wear out. For the player's own protection, the shoulder area of the washboards is edged with a soft synthetic band.
